Transferring Files from your Computer to Your Website

Some of IHR's hosted clients wish make their own web page updates and transfer (or "upload") the files from their computer to their website (on IHR's web server).

NOTE: When you are doing the following procedures, IHR recommends that you follow the instructions for file transfer, and not try other options unless you have first talked with IHR.

To upload files from your computer to your website, do the following:

  1. Use your web browser to access the web address that IHR sends you. You will navigate to a page that says "iManager Virtual Server Administration Suite"

  2. Enter the Login ID and Password that IHR has sent you, then click on Remember Password, so that the server will store your password on your computer (in a "cookie"). Then next time you log in from that computer, you won't have to re-enter your password. This is a secure way to log in.

  3. Click the Login button. A new iManager page appears with some options you can select.

  4. Click on File Manager. A new page displays which lists the directories and files on your Web site.

  5. When you do this process the first time, you should experiment by uploading a test file to help ensure that you you fully understand the process and don't accidentally overwrite any important web pages.

  6. Click on different files and directories in the Directory column. This will give you sense of what is in your website. You won't break anything by clicking on items in the Directory column. Find the directory where you want to upload your file.

  7. Start in the directory where you want to upload your file. Now, in the  Actions section, click on Upload File. A web page displays with two columns. The top of the Web page says:

Current Working Directory: / [directory name, if specified]

  8. Click on the Browse button and find a test file on your computer (that has a unique name) which you want to upload to the server. Leave the right column blank.

  9. Click on the Upload File button. A message will display that informs you of the success of your operation.

  10. Now view that file in your browser to prove to yourself that you successfully loaded the file and it's viewable. To view the file, open a new browser window (in IE, click on File, New, Window) and enter the Web address of the file in your browser.

  11. After you are satisfied that you could upload the file, select the file and use the Remove command to remove the test file from the server.

  12. Now upload the actual file, using the instructions above.

  13. Use your browser to view the file you just uploaded to make sure that everything went OK.

If you will be uploading lots of files over time to your website, then IHR recommends that you obtain an FTP client and install it on your computer. You can download the client from the Internet. IHR uses the following FTP client, which comes with instructions for use:

WS-FTP

Feel free to contact IHR if you have any questions about uploading files to your website.
