Setting up Google Analytics

In June 2009, IHR started using Google Analytics, to track website traffic, for all of our new clients. Google Analytics is a very powerful tool for analyzing your web hosting traffic... and it's free!

IHR generally recommends that you sign up for your own Google Analytics (GA) account, because then the GA account belongs to you, not IHR. This means your website can be hosted anywhere and still use your same Google Analytics account. You can also provide account access to any consultant you wish. It's under your control. Also, if your GA was running under an IHR account and you were to leave the IHR service, for Google technical reasons, you couldn't pull your historical GA data out of the IHR account.

In order to sign up for Google Analytics, you must first have a Google Account. If you forgot your Google Account password, or are not sure if you have a Google Account, refer to the section at the bottom of this page - "Problems Logging into Google Account"

Steps to Set Up Google Analytics

  1. Sign into your Google account here. Once inside your Google Account, you can sign up for Google Analytics.

NOTE: If you don't have a Google Account, then sign up here. It is very easy! Be sure to enter the email address you want associated with your Google Account. At the bottom of the signup page, also sign up for Google Analytics.

  2. After you set up your Google Analytics account, you'll need to invite IHR to access your account. This Google page explains how to do that. You should set up IHR as a user, as follows:

    • For User setup: enter "Cliff Bernstein," with email cliffb@ihr.com
    • For Access Type: select "Account Administrator"
    • For Website Profiles: select all of them

Problems Logging into Google Account

If you forgot your username or password:

Go the Google Accounts: Problems signing in to your account page to help you get your login information.

If you're not sure whether you have Google Account:

If you are using any of the following Google services than you already have a Google Account:

  • Gmail (Google email)
  • Google Adwords
  • Google Checkout

If you're still not sure whether you have a Google Account, then go to the Google Password Assistance page and enter your email address that might be associated with a Google Account. If you don't have a Google Account with that email address, Google will display the following error message:

"There are no Google Accounts currently registered to the username abc123cv8@abcv124777.com. If you spelled the address incorrectly or entered the wrong address, please try again.

If your email address is correct, then you may not have created an account with Google, even if you currently use some of our products. For example, it's possible to use iGoogle and Google Alerts without a Google Account. In this case, please create an account."
